    Travel Advisory Update
    October 13th, 2005

Kopi’vosian and Sunny Greetings from Sabah!

The recent second Bali bombing was a terrible tragedy that brings about strong antipathy and anger as once again innocent people are hurt and lives taken from this horrible episode. Once again the travel industry is shaken and given reason to be fully aware of these atrocious terrorist acts.

We in Sabah, fully appreciates and respect each government’s concerns for their citizens traveling abroad. At the same time, we wish also to make it known that Malaysia is against all forms of terrorist acts and continues to take extra measures of security and firm action to prevent attacks by any radical groups.

Sabah is known for its leisure beach resorts, quiet getaways for honeymooners, families, retired couples and the active adventure seekers. Our people are a very peaceful, mixed racial society with more than 30 ethnic communities. Mix-marriages are common, with about one third of the population being Muslims; one third are Christians of various dominations and the balance third are practicing Borneo-animists, Buddists and other faiths. We are known as being very hospitable, friendly and protective of our guests and visitors. This includes tourists that visit our State on their own as well as those here for business, meetings, conferences and incentives activities.

We are heedful and very concerned about safety and security in Sabah. In addition to the efforts of the Police and the Malaysian Armed Forces, the people of Sabah, including the travel and tourism sector are taking precautionary measures and to be vigilant.

There are many expatriates living in Sabah with their families and children – that include Australians, British, Italians, Americans, Canadians, French, Russians, Swiss, Germans, Koreans, Japanese and more. They include professionals and businessmen as well as a growing community of seniors and retirees from Australia, UK, Wales and Japan who have decided to make Sabah their second home because they love the peace, beauty and friendliness of the people of Sabah.

We look forward to welcome all of you to Sabah to truly experience the beauty of Sabah in a safe environment.
